The Sacrament of Matrimony is a sacred covenant in which a man and woman give themselves to one another in a lifelong union of love and fidelity. Through this Sacrament, husband and wife receive the grace to love one another, build a family rooted in Christ, and help one another grow in holiness.



St. Genevieve Catholic Church is honored to accompany engaged couples as they prepare not only for their wedding day, but for the lifelong vocation of Christian marriage.

Begin Marriage Preparation

Couples wishing to celebrate the Sacrament of Matrimony at St. Genevieve should contact a parish priest or deacon at least six months before their desired wedding date to begin the marriage preparation process. Couples should begin this process before booking a reception venue or making other commitments based on a particular wedding date.



A wedding date is not officially secured until the required meeting with the pastor, documentation, and deposits have been completed in accordance with St. Genevieve's Wedding Policy.

Preparing for Marriage

Marriage preparation at St. Genevieve is designed to help engaged couples prepare spiritually for the Sacrament and the lifelong vocation of Christian marriage.

The preparation process includes:



• Meeting with a parish priest or deacon
• Participation in an Engaged Encounter weekend
• Completion of three Natural Family Planning sessions, scheduled through the Diocese of Lafayette
• Providing recently issued Baptism certificates for the bride and groom

During the initial meeting, the priest or deacon will review the marriage preparation process, discuss additional diocesan requirements, and guide couples through the next steps.

Planning Your Wedding at St. Genevieve

The celebration of Matrimony is first and foremost a sacred liturgy of the Catholic Church. Couples preparing to marry at St. Genevieve will work with the parish to plan a wedding rooted in the beauty, reverence, and traditions of the Catholic faith.

St. Genevieve's Wedding Policy outlines important information regarding wedding scheduling, parish eligibility, fees, rehearsals, sacred music, photography, floral arrangements, and other guidelines for celebrating Matrimony at our church. We encourage all engaged couples to carefully review the policy before beginning their wedding preparations.

Wedding Music

Sacred music is an important part of the celebration of Matrimony and should reflect the prayerful nature of the wedding liturgy. All wedding music at St. Genevieve is coordinated through our Music Director and Organist, Jodi Bollich, who assists couples with selecting appropriate sacred music for their celebration. Once your wedding date has been secured with the parish, please contact Jodi to begin planning your wedding music.
