Funeral Planning

A Funeral Rooted in Faith & Christian Hope

At the death of a loved one, the Church gathers to pray for the deceased, comfort those who mourn, and proclaim our hope in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

St. Genevieve Catholic Church is here to accompany families during this difficult time and help prepare a funeral liturgy rooted in the prayer and tradition of the Catholic Church.

“The Christian funeral is a liturgical celebration of the Church.”

— Catechism of the Catholic Church | 1684

Through the funeral rites, the Church entrusts the deceased to God and offers prayer, consolation, and hope to those who mourn.

Fuenral Arrangements

When a loved one dies, families should first contact their chosen funeral home to begin making arrangements. The funeral director will coordinate directly with St. Genevieve Catholic Church to schedule the funeral and assist with the necessary preparations.

Local funeral homes have St. Genevieve's current funeral planning forms, Scripture readings, music selections, and other liturgical resources. Most of the planning process takes place with the funeral director, who will guide families through the available selections and coordinate arrangements with the parish.

If you have questions or need additional assistance, please contact the Parish Office at 337-234-5147.

Planning the Funeral Liturgy

The Catholic funeral liturgy is a prayer of the Church for the person who has died. Families will work with their funeral director to make appropriate selections for the funeral, including Scripture readings, sacred music, and other elements of the liturgy.

The funeral home will provide St. Genevieve's current guidelines and coordinate these selections with the parish.

CREMATION & FUNERAL SERVICES

St. Genevieve welcomes Catholic funeral liturgies for those whose remains have been cremated.

Cremated remains are treated with the same dignity and reverence as the body of the deceased. When cremated remains are present for the funeral liturgy, a table is provided in the church, and flowers and photographs may be displayed.

Families should discuss cremation arrangements with their funeral director, who will coordinate the appropriate preparations with the parish.

FUNERAL FEES

St. Genevieve Catholic Church does not charge a parish fee for funeral services.

A separate fee applies for funeral music. Families can obtain information about music arrangements and associated fees through their funeral director.

Calvary Cemetary

St. Genevieve's ministry to families continues through Calvary Cemetery, providing a sacred and peaceful resting place for generations of the faithful.

For information about cemetery property, burial arrangements, the Mausoleum of the Resurrection, existing family plots, or other cemetery matters, please contact the Calvary Cemetery office.

REMEMBERING YOUR LOVED ONE IN PRAYER

The Church continues to pray for those who have died even after the funeral liturgy. Families may also wish to have a Mass offered for the repose of the soul of their loved one.

St. Genevieve offers opportunities to request Mass intentions and Sanctuary Lamp intentions in prayer for loved ones.
